He’s been rehearsing his lines for weeks now, ever since he sat down with Puck and drank all the beer that his best friend had stashed away in his mini-fridge so that Quinn would never find it. It’s been four years since the last time he and Rachel visited the Bow Bridge in Central Park and since this is such a big deal for their relationship, he wants it to start in Central Park again. He remembers every detail of that night, including her running away from him. He got her back, at the end of it all, but for a second there he thought she was gone again. And he had made it happen. Again.
He won’t let that happen ever again.
He sees her walking towards him, that same blue dress on, the dude with the bubbles framing her entrance like something out of a chick flick. Maybe Puck was right about using that whole theme to make this happen. Chick flicks have been good to them since them got back together (see: lots and lots of sex involving the strangest of things like ice cream, chocolate sauce, strawberries and then some). She gives him a small smile and Finn feels like the world is gone and it’s just the two of them and the Bow Bridge in Central Park. It’s like high school all over again. And she still makes him nervous (in a good way) and she makes his palms sweaty and his heart race. And it’s all one big romantic thing and he’s having a hard time getting the words out.
“You remembered.”
“Of course I remembered. You should really give me more credit than that.”
“I do, baby, I’m just impressed with how much work went into this.”
“Let’s just say that the band wasn’t so thrilled about me taking a whole day off to make this happen.”
“And yet you still did it.”
“Absolutely. Anything for you.”
“So, what’s the big occasion?
He starts to make his speech, then changes his mind. This might be a really perfect place to do it, but then all of Central Park would be clapping and cheering and making a lot of noise. “It’s a work date.”
“Finn.”
“I just wanted to start out our night here.”
“You’ve been recreating our high school memories all week, I really want to know where this is going.”
“The virgin Cosmos were a good touch, huh?”
“Finn Christopher Hudson.”
“Right,” he gives her his signature lopsided smile and slides his hand into his pocket and looks away, trying to gather his thoughts before looking back at her, “We’ve been through a lot and I know that every time something bad happened you never gave up hope. That I let go faster than you ever did. But I never did not love you through all of that. Every single time I pulled us apart, I hated myself for pretending like we weren’t something bigger. And here we are, four years later, and you still haven’t given up on me. And I want you to know that I will never give up on us either.”
He sinks to one knee and hears her gasp over the commotion going on around him. Central Park seems pretty excited. He looks up at her as he opens the small jewelry box and smiles, “It’s the ring my father gave my mother and I want you to have it.” She’s crying now and Finn knows that he should probably ask the question instead of staring at her, “Rachel Barbra Berry, will you marry me?”
